Vinery’s reputation for standing elite sires is built on the back of legacies created by Mossman, Testa Rossa, Red Ransom (USA) and the world’s leading sire of winners (in history), More Than Ready (USA). But it’s to the future that Vinery is now looking, with this exciting lineup of young sires.
Securing Ole Kirk was a huge move by Vinery and he retires to stud this year as the hottest colt of his generation. He is one of only two horses to win the G1 Golden Rose and the Caulfield Guineas double, and it’s no secret that this son of Champion Sire Written Tycoon and Black Caviar’s (Bel Esprit) sister, Naturale (Bel Esprit), has a good book of exceptional mares booked already.
Star Turn had his first crop of 2-year-olds hit the track in 2020/21 and was one of Australia’s leading sires of 2-year-olds. He was just one winner off a Champion 2-Year-Old Sire by winners' title with 19 Aussie juveniles breaking their debut.
No other first-season stallion sired more winners in Australia in 2019/20 than Headwater and he went to another level in 2020/21 by claiming the Champion Second Season Sires' title, with earnings over $3.55 million. The premiership double has elevated him in to rare company and makes him Exceed And Excel’s most proven sire son.
Also by Exceed And Excel is the incredibly fast, Coolmore Stud S. winner Exceedance. This year brought black-type pedigree updates through the feats of his siblings Oxley Road (Exceed And Excel) and Mac ‘N’ Cheese (Sebring). This spring he is now celebrating the arrival of some very impressive first foals, who by all accounts have inherited his good looks and strength.
All Too Hard is quickly becoming one of the most consistent and reliable top 10 sires in the country. He celebrated three new Group 1 winners last season, 138 Australian winners and progeny earnings in excess of $10 million! His 46 stakes horses to date prove that breeders can expect elite performers when they breed to All Too Hard.
Hinchinbrook’s heir apparent, Press Statement, was among the top second-season sires last season with over $2 million in earnings, three stakes horses and 44 winners. He is poised for an even bigger season in 2021/22 as his runners strengthen and mature as he did.
Rounding out the roster is the best value sire in the Hunter Valley, Casino Prince. He has a winners to runners strike rate of over 70 per cent and his average progeny earnings of $90,000 per runner make him an ideal choice for those wanting to give their mare every chance to breed a winner.
